Tips for good pictures

What makes the difference, from testing in real homes.

Taking the photo

• Stand in a corner and get as much of the room in as you can. Keep the phone level.
• Daylight works best. Turn on the main light if the room is dark.
• Woodwork seen side-on, such as the edge of a door frame, can come out half painted. Frames facing you work best.

Halls, stairs and landings

• Take one wall per photo. A long hall shot end-on often misses the side that is mostly door frames.
• Set the room to Hallway, Stairs or Landing, then use "Add the next wall". The colours carry over and each wall is named for you.

Busy walls: mark them

• If a wall is broken up by doors, frames or a radiator, tap "Mark the walls" before "Show me".
• Put one dot on each separate patch of wall: above a door, each side of it, between two frames. More dots on a detailed wall gives better results. Up to 12.
• With dots, only the marked walls are painted. Unmarked walls keep their colour.

What to tell the customer

• The pictures are an illustration of the scheme, not an exact colour match. Screens and light vary. Show them the real paint card or a sample pot too.
• If a version is not right, "Show me another version" usually does better. Tap "On their page" on any you would rather they did not see.
